Jackline Kabarozi's Story
It is quite common in Uganda to have to pay a bribe to get a job, no matter how
menial. It can be worse for women as they are often expected to offer sexual favors for
employment
Of course, Jackline didn’t go through these hurdles when she applied for a job at YFF
Nursery School. She says, when she heard an announcement on the radio about the
school, she gathered her documents and applied for the job of Nursery School teacher.
After submitting her application, she was called for an interview. After passing the
interview process, she was offered a position and asked to start teaching.
Jackline pondered the significance of her new job. Employment in Uganda can be a
nightmare. But she regards her job as a miraculous answer to prayer.
“I prayed hard day and night asking Jesus to get me a job, and I got it,” she says.
Jackline, just 19 years old, is planning to use the money she earns at YFF Nursery
School to go for further studies. In addition, she has been able to establish some
income generating projects like raising poultry and one goat.
“I thank God for giving the management of YFF a vision to start a school”, she says.J
Jackline is from a family of eight children, all raised by her poor mother, after the
death of her father. She says that the school has done a lot in complementing on how
her Mother raised them.
She is thankful to the Donors who are funding YFF Nursery School, since if not for
funding, she would probably still be at home, jobless.
Being able to work has also relieved the pressure to marry. Jackline wants to work,
save money and help her family to become more financially stable. She wants to
supplement her mother’s income, supporting her family in all possible ways.
“I used to be a naughty girl who didn’t listen or respect her parents, but since I became
a Christian, I became a good girl, covered with the blood of Jesus,” she says.
With income, Jackline has joined Savings and credit cooperation societies to save for
the future.
Jackline prays for the Donors of YFF Nursery School to maintain helping hearts for
many years to come. She says Donors are not only educating little ones (which will
change the future), but are helping to eradicate poverty in the area (Changing the
present).
“May God continue blessing our Donors abundantly”, she prays.
