It's That Special Season

It's that special season

It’s that special season—
A time when we reflect upon our Savior.
No matter where we live, he is with us—our Good Shepherd.
Yes, Emmanuel—God with us.
I remember a time 30 years ago.
I was teaching 3rd graders at a Christian school, likely much like Yahweh Faith.
It was Christmastime, and our classroom was decorated with a bit of extra sparkle.
Preparing to hand out candy canes to my students, I heard the Lord whisper this poem.
I realized later there were similar stories and poems penned about this sweet Christmas candy, but I had not read them.
Written in 1994, these words still ring true.
How I wish I could give each child at YFF a great big hug and a candy cane.
Remember—Jesus loves you, and so do we, your faithful YFF supporters and friends.
Merry Christmas!

The Candy Cane
By Maureen Miller (1994)
The candy cane is red and white
And this is why it’s so—
The Baby Jesus came one night
So many years ago.
Red is the color of His blood
Poured out at Calvary.
White represents the cleansing of hearts,
His forgiveness brings purity.
The candy cane is the shape
Of a shepherd’s humble rod.
It’s used to guide his flock of sheep
Along the path they trod.
Jesus Christ was sent to be
A Shepherd for us all.
He guides us, oh so lovingly,
Catching us when we fall.
The candy cane turned upside down
Looks like the letter “J”
Which stands for the Babe born in Bethlehem Town
That very first Christmas Day.
And this is why I love them so
And hang them from my tree.
My Savior’s birth was long ago,
He came for you and me.
